Celebrity Style Gone Wrong: Guy Fieri

guy fieri style

It should come as zero surprise that I have not a single positive thing to say about Guy Fieri‘s style.  In fact, I can’t really say much about it at all because it is so terrible.  In fact, he is the antithesis of discerning taste.  I won’t speak on his food (as we have NYT for that) or his show, as that is not what is important. As a general rule of thumb, if you see Guy Fieri wearing something, you should never, ever, ever wear that same thing.  His signature bowling shirts, wrist band, sunglasses, creeper style goatee and … Continue reading

Men’s Style, Or Lack Thereof, At The 2013 Oscars

Yeah, no shit it is. That's what you get for wearing a dinner jacket with notch lapels and flapped pockets...

Yet again the celebrities and the designers who dress them gave us a clinic on how to not wear black tie.   A true testament to the fact that money and fame cannot bring one good style and good taste.  These celebrities, they persist in tormenting me with their various offenses to all things tasteful about black tie.  Luckily, there are some gents, like Hugh Jackman and Chris Pine who give me hope.  And then there is fellow Philadelphian Bradley Cooper who brought his mom as his date (I would do the same if I am ever invited and unmarried), … Continue reading

Obama’s Tuxedo Folly

“Let me begin by saying, you all dress up pretty nice.”  Was how Mr. Obama opened up his speech at the Inaugural Ball.  Kind words, no doubt.  But sad that they do not apply the the man speaking them.  Especially since said man is the President of our great country.  Even the Vice President got the memo and absolutely killed the tux game, in the best of ways that is.  So let’s break down Mr. Obama’s great folly… In short, he suffers from many of the same ailments that our celebrities do (refer here for my most recent breakdown of … Continue reading

Best And (Mostly) Worst Dressed Men Of 2013 Golden Globes

Fear not, the men of the celebrity set have yet again showed us how not to dress for black tie…  Or if you are Ewan McGregor you think you are too cool to actually wear a tie at all, that’s some serious dark side of the force shit and Yoda would not approve.  I do not know why they persist with their misguided antics, but at least it allows me to indulge in one of my guilty pleasures: systematically critiquing celebrity style (or lack thereof).  Anyway, in the interest in having these public personalities set a good example for the … Continue reading

Celebrity Style Gone Wrong: Justin Bieber, Part I

Please, you knew this was coming.  And yeah, I’m going to be critical about it (skip to the last 3 paragraphs if you just want to hear me rant). In a sartorial catastrophe that seems to have hit nearly ever major and minor publication Justin Bieber has concocted one of the most successful PR stunts of all time.  Now, whether that was his intention or not is not for me to opine on.  But I shall opine on his outfit, which is offensive for any occasion at any time of the year except Halloween.  It is worse than Ricky Fowler … Continue reading

Fashion: Miguel Antoinne Store Opening

On October 11 Miguel Antoinne opened the doors to his first store at 39 Wooster St in New York’s fashion-centric Soho neighborhood.  The opening was well attended by a rather diverse yet fashionable crowd, including Andre Brown and Ramses Barden (who was wearing a shirt and pants from Miguel Antoinne) of the NY Giants; and of course, yours truly.  If you are a regular follower of FYGblog you will know that I rarely talk about fashion, but from time to time I find it prudent and interesting to do so.  For sometimes we need to look at things from a … Continue reading

A Lesson On (How Not To Do) Black Tie, Pt III: 2012 Emmy Awards

To be or not to be judgemental…  It’s not really a question in this case, I feel obligated to be the former.  If only the men of the Emmy’s could don a tux as well as they act in their respective shows; but far from that they are.  The showing at the Emmys was worse than what we saw for the Golden Globes and Oscars.  Luckily there were a few stand outs, including Jimmy Kimmel.  The event could not have come at a better time.  As Black Tie seasons is fast approaching (yes, caps intended) and I have been getting … Continue reading

Marlon Gobel S/S 2012 Show

Let’s venture outside the norm for FYGblog again.  Why?  “To remind myself that we must constantly look at things in a different way.” The good people at Marlon Gobel were nice enough to have me at their show last Saturday at the New York Public Library at Lincoln Center.  The theme of the show was to be the stars.  The teaser video reminded me a bit of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: Space Odyssey.  Now, mind you, I am a fan of Kubrick, so my interest was piqued.  Backstage after the show in an interview with Spiro Mandylor of It’s All Style … Continue reading

Celebrity Style Gone Wrong, I

Poor Jonah Hill…  I mean, he’s certainly not poor; but shit, just look at that suit. I feel bad for Mr. Hill in this picture, which was from an event for The Watch.  The fit of that suit is just atrocious, offensive even.  It reminds me of my friends first Alton Lane suit.  At the Oscars Mr. Hill was no sartorial idol, but at least he had the fit down pretty well.  Let’s break down this outfit in the hopes that some lessons can be learned. Let’s dwell on the positives first.  Pink is one of my favorite colors to … Continue reading
