how to move shoes

Ideally it is something that only happens once a year, if that.  Moving; that is.  And in my experience it is always a hassle.  And it always takes longer than expected; like many things in life.   Given my predilection for clothing the focus of my move oft resides with my wardrobe (and my home theater because audio and video is another thing I have a predilection for).  So the question always arises, how to move clothes?

Without getting into too much of a prescription I have always found the best method is to keep things on their hangers and put them in wardrobe boxes or suit bags.  Trash bags (clean ones of course) can be used in a pinch (see last photo).  It is worth noting that this method differs from how to best pack for travel, for which I advise against using suit bags, but that is for another time.  Shoes are best carried in shoe bags, which any good pair of shoes will come with.  The idea is to protect your suits, shirts and shoes from whatever treacherous elements exist in the world outside of your closet.  Foolishly, I threw out a few pair of shoe bags which although not the end of the world it did add a few minutes to the packing time to MacGyver a substitute.  Keep your bags.

  1. Those look like Black Lapel suit bags. I know them well. These canvas bacgs were a marked improvement over their last bags before they changed brands from AlphaSpoke to Black Lapel. Canvas is best for breathability although several of my bags are plastic. Storage is a journey just as is acquisition.
